2024.005.001 Oral history with Korean War veteran Donald Alm. Don was an engineer in the US Army. He served in Korea in various locations from Pusan to the northern areas close to the DMZ. After peace had been declared he was involved in a conflict with unknown (bandits? North Vietnamese?) group. No one was hurt, but his group was split up.
The Army didn't want word to get out in case it threatened the peace. Donald was told to tell no one. He was sent on R&R to Japan and promoted twice. He went from Private to Sergeant as a 2 year draftee. Very unusual. He talked about how awkward that was to oversee men when he didn't really know the job. Very interesting interview.
