Phrenology Case owned by L.C. Gates. Medical. Pencil sketches of famous people on canvas, beautifully done. Case is wood - 20x27" hinged with hook locks. 8 separate canvases. Each canvas measures 36x48". One sketch 14x18" on paper of Essie Couthou. Paper shipping label inside case from Fowler & Wells Co., dated Jan. 23, 1895 and sent to: David Gates, Maden, Minnesota. Outside of wood case printed in black lettering: L.D. Gates, Osseo, Minn. Phrenology means, The practice of studying character and mental capacity from the conformation of the human skull.
