Description
This hat was given as an award to the recipient, who was being honored for five years of earning the National Safety Council's Safe Driver Award. It belonged to a member of the Hart family.

The hat has a flat, sloped top, with a pendant attached to the center of the front, reading, "National Safety Council, 5 Year, Safe Driver Award" in gold lettering on a background of royal blue. The crown of the hat is royal blue plastic mesh, which is joined to the supportive frame by a woven strip of the same materials. The front of the hat has a shiny black visor, which is attached to the frame with a strip of the same material. The ends of that strip each have a golden button attached to them. The button is golden and shows the emblem of the U.S. Postal Service.

Inside the hat, there is a clear plastic cover attached to the top of the hat. It includes a small pocket with a logo and company name on it, "Penn Garment Co, Williamsport, PA." Inside the pocket, a card instructs the wearer about proper care and usage of the garment. Around the brim of the hat, a leather strip is stitched around the circumference. At the front of the hat, there is a label behind the strip, certifying that the hat was constructed according to the relevant legal standards.
