Description
Cylinder Dispenser.
Trevor Ames. Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Maker (on detachable base plate): "CREATIVE TOOL BELLE PLAINE MN."
Used in Trevor Ame's thesis "Oxytetracycline Levels in Healthy and Diseased Calves" and other early research looking at lung levels of antibiotics instead of blood levels. Larry Stowe sent Trevor Ames to Abbott Labs in Belle Plaine for training with the device. The device drops six cylinders onto an agar plate that has a known quantity of bacteria in the agar. Device function description by Trevor Ames: "Add tissue homogenate diluted with saline to the cylinders and incubate for 24 hours. The antibiotic in the tissue in the cylinder diffuses into the plate and creates a zone of bacterial growth inhibition which allows you to tell how much antibiotic is in the tissue. The agar is cloudy if the bacteria grows and clear if there is no growth."
