Description
Blue-green painted metal cylindrical container for voting ballots. It has a hinged round lid with a clasp closure and a slot cut in the center for inserting paper ballots. It is stenciled in black with the words "State" above the slot and "County" below the slot. "Bloomington Twp.(Township) Minn." is stenciled in black on the front. There is a metal handle on each side near the top for carrying the box. It was removed from the Old Town Hall in 1964 when it was cleared out after the building of the new municipal building across the street. Leon Joel Doucette, a city employee, was helping clean out the last remaining items and took the ballot box home rather than disposing of it. His son, Paul, brought it in to the museum after the death of his father. Leon Doucette worked for Bloomington Public Utility Dept for 39.5 years.
