Description
Artifacts found during the 2017-2018 Pope County Archaeological Survey.
This collection has a canning jar base with heavy shelf ware that can be dated to the 1930s-1940s by the valve mark on the base. Three sherds represent a buff crock with a light blue stripe on the exterior and a dark brown interior. Lighter blue decorative glazes (vs. cobalt blue) were only possible using a non-lead based flux and indicate a post-Civil War manufacture date.

Colorless bottle glass fragments were made with more highly refined materials and the addition of manganese and generally post-date 1880. Two semi-porcelain Asian import ceramics one with a decal decoration of a lantern and water lilies probably fall after the 1920s and perhaps post WWII. Considered together the historic artifacts in this collection appear to date to the early 20th century.
