Description

Artifacts found during the 2017-2018 Pope County Archaeological Survey.

Upon completion of shovel testing the team conducted a brief metal detector survey of the northern portion of this property in the area where the GLO surveyors mapped the Red River ox cart trail. The metal detector survey failed to document any significant historic objects but did recover numerous modern iron objects such as fence staples, wire nails, a .22 bullet and brass shotgun casings. Two additional lithic flakes were recovered while recovering metal items during the metal detector survey. These are recorded as positive metal detector finds.
