Of the group to leave Pope County January 5th, the nine pictured above were sent to Camp Roberts, California for their basic training which was completed some time ago and are now fighting for Uncle Sam "Somewhere".
They are from left to right standing: Pvts. Walter M. Nelson, Clayton M.. Billehus, Virgal B. Rinken, Alfred Hagen.
Kneeling: George H. Warfield, Orville H. Jergenson, Leonard A. Hermann, Corp. Melvin C. Anderson, and Pvt. Robert J. Chermak. Pvt. Leonard A. Hermann had the honor of being selected to attend Non-commissioned officer School at Camp Roberts and Corp. Melvin C. Anderson was transferred to Battalion Headquarters as a clerk.
Alfred Hagen was killed in action in New Guinea on November 26. 1942.
Orville H. Jergenson was killed in action in Leyte on December 13, 1944.
