Title
Butler's Grocery StoreCreation Date
1950sDescription
Butler's Groceries & Meats, located on the triangle of land formed by Fifth Avenue (5th Avenue), Military Road, and Washington Street in Anoka. This store was opened in the early to mid-1950s by Lawrence and Erma (Baldwin) Butler. A sign on the side of the building advertises Pepsi-Cola and Off-Sale Beer, and there are two gas pumps in front of the building. The sign over the door advertises "Ice Cream Brick or Bulk" and in the windows are "Wonder Bread" signs. There is snow on the ground and buildings.
The house visible in the back right of the photograph was later taken down to make room for a restaurant called The Black Steer. That site later became Han's Bakery, which it remains as of 2019. For the full story from the donor, please see the PDF document attached to this record.
