Description

Souvenir card given to Bloomington Ferry School students in 1916 by their teacher, Elizabeth Pehoushek.  Textured paper cover with raw-edge flap folded over on the right side.  Vertical lettering on the flap “School Souvenir 1916” in green ink.  The left side of the cover is embossed with silver images of two lighted hanging lanterns, an owl, a feather ink pen and three books.  An embossed picture frame surrounds “the Great Art of Learning is to undertake but a little at a time.”  At the bottom of the cover is printed “Not what you Read but What you Remember will make you Wise.”  The inside pages are held together with a green cord.  The first page is a note from the teacher.  The next page is a list of the names of the teacher, students and school board members.  The next three pages are an illustrated poem “The Silent Bell.”
