Description

Small 5-inch stuffed leather lizard.  Legs are leather strips with plastic beads and metal cones.  The animal's back is a heavily beaded design and the bottom is unadorned leather.  Umbilical cord pouches like this served as a protective charm to ensure long life.  Lizards were typically for boys and turtles for girls.  It is unknown if this is an authentic pouch or one made by a Native American artist for sale at an art gallery.  It is not on public display for this reason.
