Description
This is a silk service flag that has a red border surrounding a white center with 7 blue stars inside the white square. The red silk is shattering and in fragile condition. The blue stars represent the number of family members serving in the U.S. Armed Forces during a time of war or hostilities. A brass hanging rod with brown string was originally attached to the flag, but has been separated for storage purposes. Blue Star Flags were typically displayed in the front window in the homes of families with immediate family members in the military service. (spouse, parent, child or sibling.)
