Description

Bentwood butter churn made by Standard Churn Company of Wapakoneta, Ohio in the early 1900's. It is a model 2 with a 7 gallon capacity and has stenciling on all sides. The oak bentwood barrel is held together with two metal bands on the underside.  It stands on four wood legs and has a removable top.  The white knob on the top is missing. The hand crank is on one side, and the opposite side has a drain spout near the bottom.  Inside is a horizontal shaft with four off-set rectangular paddles which scrape the butter back to the center as they churn.  It measures 16" by 18" and is about 30" tall.    The front and back have a rose decal along with the model “No. 2” and size “7 Gall.”  The sides have the manufacturer's name "Manf'd by Standard Churn Co.  Wapakoneta, O. U.S.A."  The company was established in 1889.
