Description

"The brown and white materials in this basket are willow; the black leaf-shaped design is made from fern root. The basket is 22 1/2 inches long and 19 inches wide. it was made by Louise Tom, 82 years old, a Washoe Indian, and I got it in 1934. A winnower was used to remove the chaff from grain or the shells from nuts by shaking the grain or nuts so the unwanted materials would fall away." There are 12 rows and 3 stitches per inch.
