Description

Large, heavy kitchen cleaver with full tang.  Three pins attach the blade to the wooden handle.   Jernbolaget Eskilstuna made in Sweden stamp. Used by George Hopkins of Bloomington, MN.

The Eskilstuna Jermaufaktur AB company also known as Jernbolaget can trace its origin to when Christoffer Zetterberg started a factory to produce sabers, foils, knives, and padlocks in 1811 and was later taken over by Johan Svenngrn in 1852 and later official established as Jernbolaget in 1868. They did a variety of metal goods in addition to knives, including cutlery, scissors, hinges, padlocks, tools and kitchen scales. At is peak in 1929 the company had 600 workers and the knives were known for their quality and craftsman ship. The company would eventually shut down in September of 1966 and was eventually acquired by Bacho another prominent Swedish tool manufacture.
