Description
"This 12 1/2 inch in diameter bowl basket is very old, having been already 20 years old when I got it from an old Hopi woman, 54 years old. The basket is brown and a pinkish-red. It comes from the second mesa where the women wove coil baskets, as well as the plaited baskets made on all three mesas."
Hopi baskets are woven by the women. On all three mesas, where Hopis live, plaited baskets are made, but the second mesa is the only place where they make coiled baskets such as this one. Coiled baskets are made using yucca as a base, with rabbit brush or other materials as a top weaving.

This basket has 2 coils and 15 stitches per inch.
