Description
"This 8 inch hot pad is natural color with a few green and red designs woven in. This was given to me to put my hot dishes on. Even though it is taken from our modern idea of table setting, notice how beautifully they have woven the handle right in so that it can be hung up. All Indians are practical. Wherever possible they made things to be hung up because they were so short of cupboard space, some having no cupboards at all. This pad comes from the second mesa of the Hopi tribe in Arizona where they do coil weaving as well as the plaiting used on the other two mesas. For coil weaving they use yucca as a base winding it with rabbit brush or some other material. (This is described as a Hot Plate or Plaque)." The colors added are richly varied. There are greens, blues, purples, and pinks. This basket has 4 coils and 10 stitches per inch.
