Description
Wire and wood doll wearing a red shirt with a white scarf, and tan pants with a black stripe down each side. The doll is also wearing a white and red straw hat and holding a paper accordion. The doll is supported in the back by a blue wire wrapped with a gold ribbon. the doll is standing on a platform which is covered with yellow and ivory strings woven into a diamond pattern. A small black plaque reading "Italy" is attached to the platform.
This was donated by Mary Beth Grimes of Minneapolis. Mary Beth's aunt, and the doll's owner, was Elizabeth (Betty) Ann Grimes. Betty was born on September 4, 1914 and was a lifelong resident of Minneapolis. Her parents were Gordon and Margaret Grimes and she had a brother named Alden. Betty was employed by Campbell-Mithun, Inc. for more than 30 years. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church and was active in many local and national organizations including the Red Cross, United Fund, American Association of University Women and the Woman's Club of Minneapolis. Elizabeth died on August 18, 2006 and is buried at Lakewood cemetery.
