Daniels, Asa W. B/W photograph of Dr. Asa Wilder Daniels. Dr. Asa Daniels was born in New Hampshire in 1829, and came to Minnesota with his new wife (Emma Brown Evans) in 1853. He was a pioneer physician and surgeon, who practiced at the Lower Sioux Agency for eight years. Daniels later practiced in St. Peter from 1861 to 1905, and was the the first surgeon in the state to use an anesthetic. Asa W. Daniels retired to Pomona, CA in 1906, where he died on February 27, 1923. The Daniels Medical Center, opened in 2003 at the corner of highway 169 and Dodd Avenue as a branch of the Mankato Clinic, was named after him.
