Description

Swenson Family Brochure. B/W photo of a brochure for a luncheon honoring the Swenson Herd of Purebred Holsteins. The Swenson operation was described as being the "Oldest in Minnesota." The brochure includes a historical sketch of the Swenson family in New Sweden Township, beginning with Swen Swenson (1826-1905), who bought the first Holstein, and continuing with his son and grandsons. Swen was instrumental in the founding of the Co-op Creamery in Traverse in 1890 and the New Sweden Creamery in 1895. The Nicollet County Agent, Fred Wetherill, described the history of the herd. The brochure includes photos of Swen Swenson, Oscar Swenson (who continued the herd from 1906 to 1927 and who served as a State Representative and as a State Senator), Maurice Swenson (1901-1946, who continued the herd from 1927to 1946), and Maurice's sons, Owen Swenson and Howard Swenson, both of whom continued the family operation.
