He served as the president of Gustavus Adolphus College for many years. His son, Samuel E. Carlson (born June 11, 1946), is the second person from the left. The person in the middle, David J. Carlson (born October 20, 1938), is the oldest of the three children. Daughter Joanna Carlson (born July 18, 1942), is the second person from the right. Dr. Carlson's wife, Ebba E. Carlson (born July 10, 1910), the former Ebba Edquist, is at the far right.
