Fremstad, Olive. B/W photo of Olive Fremstad as Carmen. Olive, called Anna Olive as a child, was born in Sweden on March 14, 1871 (according to "The New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians," but other sources indicate different dates). Olive came to Nicollet County with her parents when she was about ten years old. The family lived in section 26 of New Sweden Township before moving to St. Peter. Olive attended the First Lutheran Church in St. Peter. She eventially became one of the greatest opera singers at the Metropolitan Opera in New York City. Performances in other countries brought her international fame. She died at Irvington-on- Hudson, NY on April 21, 1951. Duplicate at E2685. Part of a series of E2510-2546.
