The Swen Eckberg homestead was established in New Sweden Township on October 12, 1869. The land was purchased from the State Land Office for $5 per acre. Later, additional land was purchased and divided between sons John Eckberg and Charles H. Eckberg.
Members of the fifth generation of the family lived on the land in 2000.
