Matthew Magner, Reading, Pennsylvania, c.1853. Identified in the album as "Matt Magner."

Matthew Magner was living in the South when the Civil War began. After a year in a Mississippi regiment, he joined Mosby's Rangers, which was also known as the 43rd Battalion of Virginia Cavalry. He rose to the rank of Lieutenant of Company F. He survived the war, but died of cholera in Mississippi late in 1866.
