Carl W. Ulrich won this car in 1910. A newspaper article about the photo reads:

A Happy Group Around A Brand New Car, Back Around 1910!

This brand new car, which you see in the picture, with clincher tires, tool box, oil lamps, carbon headlights, leather seats, is non other than the popular White model, which was the property of Carl Ulrich, father of John Ulrich, proprietor of Ulrich Electric.

Carl won the car in a subscription drive for the daily German newspaper known as the "Volks Zeitung," which was published in St. aul. John recalls that this was the second automobile in Bernadotte township, and was looked upon with admiration whenever it was on the road. This model had no top and there were no doors in the front seat. He remembers that when the car was received, no one in his family knew how to make it go. He wasn't taught to drive either but learned it on the way from New Ulm to the home farm located three and a half miles northeast of Klossner. There was no license on cars then but a bill was passed two years later requiring same, which cost around a dollar a year, as John recalls.

John can be seen behind the wheel of the car with the then very popular derby hat. Seated next to him is Peter Seibel and Fred Seibel is seated on the floor of the car.

Around the car from left to right are: Elmer Gieseke; Russel Ebert, Yakima Washington; Otto Fischer, Oldsmobile dealer in New Ulm; Carl Ulrich, Redwood Falls; Henry Meyer (deceased); Hugo Glassmann; Mrs. Henry Fluegge, New Ulm; Mrs. Hugo Glassmann (Anna Ebert), North Dakota; Mrs. August Struss (Alwina Drill), Courtland.
