Hofstott, Frank. B/W photo of Frank Y. Hoffstott in his Civil War uniform. The following is written on the back of the photo (punctuation added): "Frank Young Hoffstott, born about 1829. Attended school in Lisbon, Ohio. Son of Isaac Hoffstott and Margaret Young Hoffstott. Was clerk for G. A. Brown Traverse des Sioux, Minn. He moved from Columbian Co., Ohio to Traverse des Sioux some time in the late 50s. Was Sergt. Co. E, 2nd Minn. Vol. Inf. July 5, 1861 [this is date mustered in - RJS]; reenlisted, promoted sergt. major and 1st Lieut. & Adjt. 2nd Minn. Mustered out July 11, 1865. Was first Postmaster of Ottawa, Le Sueur, Co., Minn. Married Margaret Ryan of Chicago and had 3 children (name of one was Catherine). Was living in Chicago in 1893. W. C. Brown." The Civil War information agrees with that found in "Minnesota in the Civil and Indian Wars, except that the surname is Hoffstatt, rather than Hoffstott." Photo E859 adds the following: "Was secretary of the association which established the Cemetery just back of St. Peter. (where Gov. John A. Johnson is buried)" Additional notes on E859 agree with other information on E429.
