Business District. B/W postcard showing the business district in Lafayette prior to the fire in October of 1908. See page 11 of the book "The History of Lafayette" 1900 to 2000 for a labeled image of this divided back postcard. The caption states that the "First four buildings on the left and the first three buildings on the right were destroyed in the fire." Page 11 also contains the names of each of the businesses that are shown in this image. Going from left to right, they are, on the left side of the street: Goblirsch & Brey General Store, Lafayette House (Victor Lund Hotel), Otto Bieraugel Saloon, Goblirsch & Stadick Saloon (with Hall on second floor), Joe Kosek Blacksmith Shop, Hugo Dorn Saloon, H. E. Walker Lumber Company, and Claus Anderson Harness & Shop. On the right side of the street, going from left to right, the businesses are: C. F. Bergquist Hardware & Lumber, State Bank of Lafayette, Olin & Hedren General Store, E. T. Anderson Restaurant, City Drug Store, Johnson & Burke Millinery Shop, and the Peterson Meat Market. This postcard was accidently submitted twice for the Minnesota Reflections website. The other reference number is umn39518a, with the reverse as umn39518b. See also mhs00015.
