Title
Alvin and Bertha HarmeningCreation Date
December 14 1906Description
Harmening, Alwin and Bertha. B/W wedding photo of Alwin Harmening (b. 6-13-1883, d. 7-13-1968) and his second wife, Bertha Harmening (the former Bertha Rautenberg, b. 12-10-1883, d. 9-13-1955). They were married on 12-14-1906. Behind them are Henry Harmening (b. 1884, d. 11-11-1932) and Louise Rautenberg (b. 5-23-1881, d. 9-20-1961). Alwin's name has been spelled as Alvin Harmening in some sources, but the spelling used in this description is the spelling that appears on his tombstone. The 1920 census shows the Alvin Harmening family living in New Ulm. At that time, Alvin and Bertha were both 36 years old. Christina Harmening, age 12; Emma Harmening, age 10; Alvin Harmening, age 7; Victor Harmening, age 5; and Woodrow Harmening, age 2, were also listed. The Find A Grave website has much information about the couple. Note: a referenced photo album contains hand-written notes concerning the marriage of Bertha to John Harmening, but Bertha Rautenberg married Alwin Harmening, not John. Also, the image of Bertha as an attendant to the Alvin Harmening and Anna Rautenberg wedding in ED4833 is consistent with the image of the bride as shown in this photo. The image of the groom shown here is similar to the groom in ED4833, but not with John Harmoning in ED4833.
