Description
Sepia toned photograph of the Wollan Store / Fremad Building. 1870 is written on the front, but further research dates the photo between 1889 when the Minton House Hotel was built (possiby 1884 as Minnewaska hotel.) and 1905 when the building across the street from the Fremad building burned down. The brick fremad building was constructed in 1893 and the wooden structure was moved to the west.
The central building is the Wollan store or Fremad Association at the corner of Franklin Street and Green Street. The white Fremad building faces Green Street. There is a smaller building attached a t the rear that says "ASSOCIATION" along the top. Attached to the smaller building is the first Pope County State Bank Building. Then after a small alley, the Minton House Hotel is visible.
Across Franklin street is a wooden building with a "Flour and Feed" sign overhanging the sidewalk. Beneath that is a smaller sign that reads "Millinery and Notions."
A fire hydrant is visible next to the wooden building on the east side of Franklin Street.. This building burned down in 1905.
