Train going by the Lafayette Hotel, Minnetonka Beach. Built by James J. Hill, it's grand opening was July 2, 1882. This largest hotel even seen on Lake Minnetonka, it exemplified the lake's tourism heyday in the 1880's. In Sept. of 1883, the Lafayette entertained 1000 guests at a gala dinner for Pres. Chester A. Arthur. The hotel was destroyed by fire on October 4, 1897.
