These two brass whistles are similar in shape. Both have the title engraved on the top front reading, “The Acme Thunderer, Made in England.” Whistle ‘a’ is the larger one measuring 1 inch wide and 2.25 inches in length. The body of the whistle is a 1 inch cylinder with a mouthpiece extending out another inch. Openings are at the end of the mouthpiece and at the top of the whistle. there is a small loose ball in the interior of the whistle body. At the back of the whistle is a round metal piece with a 7/8 inch metal ring attached. Attached to the ring is a 15 inch brass chain with a one-inch U-shaped hook at the end. Engraved on one side of the whistle body is a shield with letters including the word ‘New York’ and other letters unreadable. Underneath the shield are the words, “Made in England.” Whistle ‘b’ measures ¾ inch wide and 2 inches long. The body and the mouthpiece are both similar to ‘a’. The brass ring attached to the back of the whistle is 5/8 inches across. Attached to the ring is a ⅓ inch clasp attached to a 2 inch small chain attached to a 15 inch compacted chain attached to a 1-inch double chain attached to a key-shaped metal latch. Engraved on one side of the body of the whistle is a wreath. At the center of the wreath are the letters, “GEMSCO”. Below the wreath are the words, “Made in England, R”.
