Cooper Elementary School, named after James Fenimore Cooper, was established in 1923 in Minneapolis, but was later closed in 2005. The student body was 73% minority, with the majority being African American. The students who attended the school moved to Longfellow Elementary which closed in 2010, forcing them to relocate to the current Hiawatha-Howe campus.
