Description

Marloo (Marlu) Mill pond dam located on the John Morton farm 5.5 miles southeast of Glenwood was completed Nov. 22 by Robert Schroeder, Glenwood contractor. Aerial photos were taken by Dean Halstead from a plane piloted by Rep. Delbert Anderson. The water retention dam will provide a more uniform and year round flow of water to reduce the flooding along the river and replaced the previous damn that washed out in 1907. It will raise the normal water level of the mill pond at least 12 feet. At the water's maximum height, approximately 356 acres of land will be flooded and the 50 acre mill pond will become a lake with six to seven miles shore line and a maximum depth of about 20 feet.
