Description
"Totem Pole Bookends. These black painted bookends are 6 1/2 inches high. On each book end is carved a traditional totem pole with the eagle symbol as the top figure. Each pole is painted in red, green, blue and yellow. Around the base and back of the bookends is a carved line, painted yellow. These bookends were carved by "Lefty" Wilder, a student from Southeastern Alaska at the Chemawa Indian School, Chemewa, Oregon. At one time all boys and girls went away to school and came to the states to this school for their education. "Lefty" got his name because he had only one arm. Please see the story of the totem pole for an explanation of the meaning of the totem."
