Topics: Mineral Center, Dairy farming in Cook County, Linnell family

PZ: Today is October 4th, 2007 and I am interviewing Nelda Bockovich Westerlind at her home on County Road 7. And right now we are going to talk particularly about Cook County creameries, dairy farms. So Nelda, what are you looking at here?

NW: This is mom's, her books and her diary, from 1942. April, 1942, and there's a notation there that the first cream check

PZ: OK.

NW: For four dollars and forty-five cents, so

PZ: So there was a creamery of some type or another at that point?

NW: Yeah, it, it started then. And they had more cream in '46 and '48 uhunfortunately she has a page for all the cream, but there is no year on it. She's got dates but no year. But this shows, you know, how they figured the cream.

PZ: Let's read one.

NW: The net weight was 38 and it tested 37, butterfat was 14.54, and the price was, I guess, 36 cents and I guess it doesn't say whether it's a gallon or

PZ: No, it doesn't.

NW: I would imagine it would be gallon.
