The Loss of the Stranger

In mid December, 1875 the 60 foot 12 ton wooden trading vessel Stranger, owned by P.E. Bradshaw & Co. of Superior set off with winter supplies for Grand Marais. It was a late trip and Captain Issac Clark was in a hurry to leave. In their haste they neglected to take an anchor and did not take up the offer of the Handy, already laid up, to take on Handy's anchor. An anchor would not be needed at Grand Marais which was sheltered. The small craft reached Grand Marais Dec. 12th, 1875.
