The Case of the MISSING FUNERAL

ON JULY 11, 1766, one of the larger funeral processions of colonial Boston followed the Rev. Jonathan Mayhew to the grave and no one alive today knows where it went.
It was a fitting tribute with 57 carriages and several hundred men and women afoot trudging in 90-degree heat from the old West Church. The fact that no record was preserved was in keeping with the character of Mr. Mayhew, who found tradition anything but venerable.
