JOHN PECORE DIES AT AGE 89 CCNH Feb 22, 1951

John E Pecore, 89, of Lutsen, died last Thursday at St. Mary's hospital Duluth after a brief illness. Mr. Pecore had been a resident of the North Shore for the past thirty years and before his retirement had been a janitor of the Lutsen school for sixteen years.
Although he had not been entirely well, he had been able to be up and around, but after he was taken to Duluth his condition suddenly became critical.
Mr. Pecore was born in
Quebec Canada, on March 4, 1861, and he came to Lutsen from Rhinelander, Wisconsin.
He is survived by his wife, Anna, three sons, F.A. Pecore, Lutsen, Jo E. Pecore, Schroeder and Donald Pecore of Ely and five daughters, Mrs. Carl F Nelson, Lutsen, Mrs. George Derocher, Mountain Iron, Michigan, Ms. Cleve Krout, Gladstone Michigan, Mrs. Fred Risberg, Chicago and Mrs. Arthur Gravelle, Two Harbors,
Funeral services were held at 10:30am Saturday in the Holy Ghost Catholic church, Two Harbors, with the Rev. Lawrence Schmidt of Grand Marais officiating and assisted by Rev. Fr Edward O'Reilly of Two Harbors. Burial was in Calvary cemetery in Two Harbors.
Pall bearers included six grandsons , Willard and Harold Nelson of Lutsen, Cleve Krout and Lyle Krout of Gladstone, Thomas Lawrence, Rhinelander, Wisc, and James Pecore, Lutsen.



PHOEBE JOSEPHINE NELSON, CCHS Feb 2, 1987

Phoebe Josephine Nelson was born Dec 17, 1889 in Finlayson, MN to John and Ann (Nelson) Pecore. She grew up in Rhinelander, Wisc and age 19, on Oct 10, 1908 married Carl F Nelson in Rhinelander. They honeymooned in Lutsen and made it their home.
From 1927 into the 1960;s they owned and operated Portage Resort at Caribou Lake, Lutsen.
Phoebe was a resident of the Cook County Nursing Home about three years and died at the Northshore Hospital Saturday evening Jan 17, 1987 at age 97. She is survived by two sons, Willard (Dorothy) of Lutsen and Thomas (Florence) of Minneapolis; sister Estelle Grevelle of Muenster, Texas, and brother Donald (Dorothy) Pecore of Duluth, 18 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren and 5 great great grand children.
She is also survived by relatives George and Inga Nelson Sr. of Lutsen, Elsie Ellquist of Grand Marais, Hilda Guimont of Everett, Washington and Edwin Nelson of Lutsen.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Carl in 1965, a daughter Dorthea, a son Harold, and several grandchildren.
She was a member of St. Johns Catholic Church, Grand Marais and the Ladies Aide.
Memorials are preferred to the cancer fund.

The casket was bore by Phoebe's grandchildren. Burial was at the Lutsen cemetery.
