Description
"The handle (of this ax) is a wooden stem. It is in the shape of a seven. It is 22 inches long and then extends 7 inches. It is about 2 inches in diameter. The stone is almost heart shaped. It is 6 inches long and about 4.5 inches at the widest part. The stone is fastened to the handle by two pieces of leather."
In 2015, Archaeologists from the Minnesota Historical Society visited our museum and identified several of the pieces in our collection. This stone was probably used as a flesher - a tool for fleshing hides. It was probably not attached to a handle.
