Description
"Ornamental, oval-shaped, 14" and 9" across. The handles are scalloped and open. The sides have 4 openings at either side. Border is gold-spattered between series of two-together grape leaves in red, white bunches of grapes raised beneath each duo. Centered is a bouquet of flowers and single flowers on the fluted side. Of white porcelain, the underside unadorned. The trademark says Royal Saxe Germany, and a number 285. A crack at one end.
This lovely, graceful dish for fruit probably cost $.25 in its day. it was the practice of social meeting to come to a birthday and present the honored one with a dish such as this. Treasured for years as a gift from friends.
