Description

Duck decoy with red head has "PGC" carved on the bottom. "Burkhard St. Paul" is stamped on the base. Burkhard's in St. Paul was a sporting goods outfitter in the 1855 through at least 1939.
We had a visitor (Bruce Hoaglund) tell us that it is a Mason Seneca Lake Drake Canvasback made between 1896 and 1924 in Detroit, Michigan. It is a factory decoy, but has been repainted. It belonged to the Pipestone Gun Club. According to Mr. Hoaglund, in original condition it would have been worth $1000-$1500, but it has been repainted and is now worth about $200.
Mr. Hoaglund is a collector (320) 796-6993.
