Overcoat - U.S. Army. Navy blue wool with pleat in back. Worn during WWI by nurse Barbara Sharpless / Barbara Thompson. The front is single breasted and has ten buttons. There are two breast pockets, each one has a button and a pleat. There is a belt that goes all the way around and fastens in front with two buttons. Each sleeve has three buttons. There is a picket on each side of the coat. The back has an open pleat from the waist down. It is held close by two buttons. There is a large collar with three buttons on the bottom side. The left side has two. They keep the tab fastened. In cold weather, the tab can be put across the neck opening to keep out the cold air. The coat is lined in black cotton. It has a shiny finish.
