Description
"Made of white heavy cotton thread. Hand knitted in blocks or squares joined, the resulting design a plain square, the next a four petal raised design. Each square is surrounded by 10 leaved raised design. Spread is 84" by 58" The edge is a pointed scallop with a fringed tassel placed every two inches. This is a lovely spread, made when beds were short. It was knit by Diddrika Elizabeth Erickson Amundson of Langhei township around 1900 - 1905 and was given by her grandson, Herbert R. Peterson, son of C.L. Peterson of Glenwood. Diddreka's daughter, Amelia Erickson Alness of Spokane, had it in her possession until her death."
It is knit in counterpane squares with fine cotton yarn, also known as cotton warp thread and tiny needles. This type of project is sometimes called a knit counterpane quilt.
