Description
Grove Lake School. Pope County School District #1. 4 x 6" black and white image of the exterior of the building. Built in 1912 on a design by A.H. Foss architect, it was a two room school house consisting of : 1 big room, 1 little room, 2 libraries, 2 cloak halls, 1 large entry hall, 1 boys' lavatory, 1 girls' lavatory, 1 dining room, small kitchen, 1 furnace room, 1 storage room, 1 manual training room and 1 tool room. Bernice Carsten was a cook there for many years. She, husband Ted, their children Tom, Deitrich, Ronald (Jack), and Mildred attended school there. Their grandchildren Cheryl and Teddy also went to Grove Lake School District 1.
