The note with the painting reads: "Here is a painting in oil of the former Glenwood Academy as it was known. The scene was painted by a former Glenwood Resident by the name of Alice Thorson a sister of the former Judge Thorson, about the turn of the century. This picture and frame was a gift from Alice Thorson to Amelia Erickson who was a teacher in the Glenwood Schools, later in her life moving to Bismarck N.D. and finally to Spokane, Washington. About year 1918 Amelia Erickson married Carl O. Ulness and attorney. Amelia Erickson Ulness was a sister of Mrs. Carl L. Peterson. Upon the death of Mrs. C.O. Ulness, Herbert and Marie Peterson inherited this painting. This picture has hung in our home for many years in Seattle and we value same very highly, but feel that its place is in the Pope County Historical Museum for posterity.
August 1970
