Glass plate negative of two Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate Native American men standing outside a tipi. The man on the left is holding a rifle, and is wearing light colored clothing and a warbonnet.
The man on the right is holding a bow and is wearing dark colored clothing and is also wearing a form of warbonnet or feathered headdress.
There are other people in the background of the photograph who appear to be walking around and observing the Indigenous men. The background people are men in suits, children, and a woman in a long skirt and large hat. Given the clothing, this photo was likely taken sometime in the late 1800s to early 1900s.
The glass plate negative is 8 3/8" x 6 3/8".
This photograph is also located on CD 2009.94.31
The donor stated that supposedly all of these glass plate negatives were taken by Red Wing photographer Charles Steaffens, circa 1900 -1924.
The donor originally received them from Sandy Marshall, who obtained them from a house that was being cleaned out.
Nitrate Negatives have been disposed of.
