Description
Limestone rock with "1192" carved into it. Stone is rounded and rough on one side. Smooth and slightly concave on inscription side. It was noted in a 1993 book "The Great Ice Sheet & Early Vikings in Mid America" by Orval French on page 11 as residing at the Pope County Museum. It was found near Starbuck. The book also notes, "Since dates [on runestones] are usually given in runic letter and crypto-puzzles, reservation must be exercised in evaluating the stone. On the other hand, the Celtics were more likely to use Arabic numerals. Heavy infusion of the Celtic into the Icelandics and Vikings is acknowledged."
