Description
Desk is from the first post office in the county at Georgetown in the old Hudson Bay Post in 1865-66 and part of 1867-68. It was used by R. M. Probstfield. Two part desk with opening top panel. Top cabinet sits on the desk with two doors. Inside the cabinet are two large cubbies and multiple small cubbies around the larger ones There is a torn label on one of the interior cubbies that begins "LETTERS For..." and the rest is torn off. Stamped inside the desk compartment "BREIDERT, Saint Paul, MN" There is additional text that is illegible. 
Note in file: this post office is the second Post Office in the Red River Valley, the one in Pembina, Minnesota Territory, having opened in 1857 note in file also refers to "letter box and desk" - no mention of letterbox
