Description
U.S. military service medal: a) Mailing box. Cardboard. From a US Army supply depot in Philadelphia, PA to Walter J. Manning in Dilworth, MN. "857732" stamped in blue on face of the box. b) Medal storage box. Cardboard. Cover reads " Victory Medal Complete Assembly with France Clasp. Manufactured by S. G. Adams Stamp and Stationary Co. St. Louis. Contract No. 9087-S March 30, 1920." c) Victory medal. Medal is gold colored with armed angel on the front. Medal back has shield emblem on the back. "The Great War of Civilization" around the top. Two lists of countries on either side of the emblem. "France, Italy, Serbia, Japan, Montenegro, Russia, Greece, Great Britain, Belguim, Portugal, Romania, China." Six stars boarder the bottom on the medal. A rainbow colored grossgrain ribbon with pin hangs the medal. A clasp on the ribbon with "France" across it. d) Mailing Envelope. Return address: "War Department. Official Business." Mailing address: "The Depot Officer. General Supply Depot U.S. Army. Philadelphia, PA." Upper right hand corner: "Penalty $300." e) Receipt. "Receipt for Victory Medal. Place: Minn." Form to fill out with blank spaces. "I acknowledge to have received Victory Medal No. 857732 this___________ day of _______, 1920. Sign Here ______________________. Please sign where indicated and mail in envelope without stamp." f) Contents slip tag. "Contents: One Victory Medal with Battle Clasps for 857732. With Clasp for* FRANCE. *If none, so state."
