SheathDescription
Norwegian bayonet in sheath/scabbard. Bayonet is for either an M1859 or an M1860 Kammerlader Army Pattern Rifle, NOT the Navy Pattern Kammerlader of the same year. This type of bayonet with the forward-bent blade is known as a "yataghan" type (after the Ottoman short sword/knife/sabre known by the same name). There are three markings at the base of the blade "K" with a crown above, another symbol with a crown above, and two letters together. On the opposite side of the blade is a stamped serial number "49371". The sheath/scabbard is leather, "MONS" has been carved into the leather near the top. The sheath/scabbard has no frog for attachment to a belt. According to the original Clay County Historical Society Record from 1937 "Mr. Monson bought this sword when he was in Norway about 10 years ago".
